Martin Azevedo describes his work as “making use of archetypes and symbolism as a means to explore ideas of masculinity, power, narrative, and allegory.” These archetypal tropes often reference familiar images, but as Azevedo explains, they can convey different meanings to different groups or individuals. In his screenprints, Azevedo builds up a network of these symbols to interact on the same visual plane, and a conversation occurs between the various pieces that have been layered together.
