Every spring, the University Art Gallery presents our Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) Exhibition, featuring Sonoma State University’s graduating students in the BFA degree program at the university. This year’s exhibition presents eight students graduating in 2021: Trisha Brown, Sophia Haggard, Rio Jones, Alexander Long, Emily McCauley, Austin Poli, Margaret Thomas, and Deja Whitney.
The BFA degree of SSU’s Department of Art and Art History differs from the BA degree in its requirements and rigor. The degree requires an additional year of focused study, with 70 units of course work in art studio, art history, and art theory courses. The BFA is often considered to be the degree of choice for students wishing to pursue graduate or professional studies. It enhances the artist’s opportunities to perform at a higher level, and fulfills the need for additional artistic growth in an intensive studio environment.
The BFA Exhibition is the culmination of this extended period of study and work, and a highlight of our BFA students’ college studies. With the campus of Sonoma State University presently being closed due to the pandemic, we proudly present these students’ accomplishments this year in an online exhibition.
