About

The University Art Gallery serves as a source of educational and cultural enrichment for the campus and surrounding communities through exhibitions, publications, and public programs featuring modern and contemporary artists of regional, national, and international significance.   In addition, the Art Gallery presents the work of the SSU art studio faculty and annual student exhibitions each spring.

Opened in 1978 as part of SSU's new Art Department complex, the Art Gallery has almost 2,500 square feet of exhibition space in two adjoining galleries.  Throughout its 40+ year existence, the Art Gallery has organized and displayed numerous museum-quality exhibitions, including solo and group shows ranging in focus from experimental installations and multimedia works to more traditional styles and techniques. In addition to its exhibitions program, the Art Gallery publishes catalogs and brochures and hosts a variety of events, from artist lectures and panel discussions to the annual Art from the Heart benefit auction.  The auction features works of art donated by emerging and nationally recognized artists from around the country and directly benefits the Art Gallery's program and publication programs.

As part of its role as a teaching facility, the Art Gallery provides Art History, Art Studio, and students from other majors hands-on experience in the field of museum and gallery methods and arts administration.
