Learning through the Imagery Series
The works on view are selections from the Sonoma State University's Art Collection, many of which originate from the distinguished Imagery Series. Thanks to a generous donation from the Benziger Family Winery, the university's collection has grown to nearly two thousand works.
The Imagery Series exemplifies the dynamic overlap between art and wine. Participating artists were given complete creative freedom, with just one unifying requirement: to incorporate an image of the Parthenon into the composition. This guiding prompt resulted in an extensive series that is both visually cohesive and remarkably diverse.
Now on view in the Dwight Gallery at the Green Music Center, selected works from the Imagery Series are presented not only for public enjoyment, but also as a hands-on educational resource. The collection plays a vital role in supporting SSU students as they develop practical skills in the handling, care, and interpretation of contemporary artwork created by accomplished artists.
We extend our sincere thanks to the Green Music Center for their collaboration on this exhibition and for their enduring commitment to creating experiences that inspire and unite all who visit this exceptional space. Special thanks also go to Claudia Molloy, Director of Operations at the University Art Gallery. Her guidance, insight, and expertise have been invaluable to me as a first-time guest curator.
